  2. Loved your songs. Need to add one more. The song to be played at one’s funeral. I want ” The Wicked Old Witch is Dead” from the Wizard of Oz. But my wife says it will never happen.

  4. ouch. You really agree with the politics of courtesy of the red white and blue? It honestly makes me sick to my stomach.

On a more positive note, I spent an entire week long car trip learning every single word to We didn’t Start the Fire.

  5. Dr. John, you are so funny!

Meredith, for the most part, I do. I love God, my country and I support the president. I don’t shove my politics down anyone’s throat, but I don’t hide them and I don’t make apologies, either. That’s what’s so great about this country…we can all have and voice our opinions.

  6. This is a fantatic list, Stacy!!!
Good answer for #6! I love that song.

I’m kinda curious…WHAT is it about Courtesy of RW&B makes Meredith sick to her stomach?? I think it’s one of the best songs ever written!

  7. I was saddened and angered and scared as much as anyone else by 9/11.

But waving the flag, shouting “America is the BEST” and threatening some faceless enemy with an ass kicking just highlights America’s most negative attributes.

I am tired of hearing the word “freedom” on so many people’s lips without any definition of what freedom means to them.

Do we really believe that killing villagers in Iraq orAfghanistan( and god knows we are awfully close to going into Iran now too) is going to quell terrorism? If anything this government is just creating more enemies.

courtesy of the red white and blue…

dammit, I didn’t want to end up in a political argument. I just get sad when people turn up the radio and sing loudly along to a song about dropping bombs and thinking that’s what America is all about.

But what do I know, I sing loudly along to Goodbye Earl which is about killing some chick’s asshole husband. So I’m a big ole hypocrite.

  8. “Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue” was written in the days following the September 11 attacks and it reflects the strong emotions of those days, but I don’t believe it in any way proposes indescriminate “ass-booting” of entire races. Rather, I believe Toby Keith was expressing that America will find and hold accountable those responsible and I support that. Those who plot to unleash terror anywhere in the world should face severe consequences. They don’t give a damn about the innocent lives they take. In war, innocent lives are unfortunately lost, but I don’t believe for a minute that our leaders don’t regret that. The cost of war is high for all “sides,” but as far as I am concerned the cost of allowing terrorism to go unpunished would be much greater.

Crud, I don’t want to debate politics, either, Mere. Let’s just agree to disagree because I know you have reasons for your beliefs and I have reasons for mine.
