No Pop, A Walk, and a Gold Medal

Doing so-so on the dieting.  I’m not the type that can jump right in and change everything right away.  I’ve gotta do it in babysteps.  One thing at a time or I’ll bail on the whole deal.  Right now my main focus is water.  I really don’t like to drink the stuff, but I know it’s one of the biggest keys to success.  Sooooo……..I’m tapering off on the Pepsi, gradually making the switch to Diet Berries & Cream Dr. Pepper (where, oh, where has my Cherry Vanilla gone?), but more important, is that I’m (most of the time) grabbing a water bottle or Lipton’s Diet Green Tea Citrus and skipping the pop all together.  Lord, I miss my caffeine.

Among the books I bought the other day at Barnes & Nobel is Lori Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds.  I’ve done Lori’s workouts before and really like them.  You do your walking right in the livingroom in front of the television.  The book is a complete six-week plan with journal pages and the workout DVD.  I am going to start reading it today, but the plan starts on a Monday so I’ll have to wait till Monday to actually get going with the walking.  Oh, and have I mentioned that I have a walking buddy lined up for the summer?  One of the ladies I work with lives in the same town I do and we’ve decided to take advantage of our park’s walking path in the mornings.  Can’t wait.  I just have to get some stretches from my doctor because the last time I walked on the path every day I ended up with heel spurs that lasted a year!  What a pain.  Literally.

Had another long evening last night.  We went to Megan’s FFA awards banquet last night.  It was a nice event, but oh, so long!  It started at 6:00 and it was 9:00 by the time we’d heard the last of the droning student speeches (FFA tries to build public speaking skills) and all the awards (over 100) had been announced.  Megan was recognized for receiving a gold medal on her record book at the state competition….the only freshman to earn a gold, I must add in my proud mamma voice.  She received a cash award and a pin to display on her FFA jacket.

  3. I just stumbled upon your blog. I wanted to say that I have just begun eating healthier and started walking at least a mile every few days. It has helped already! And I hear you on the water. I feel like I’m floating away!

  4. Congrats to Megan!!

And, you know I LOVE that diet green tea. At first, it seemed kind of weird to me to have a DIET tea. I mean, I considered ALL teas as diet drinks. But, I tried it and now I get a six pack each week.

I’m trying to cut back too. I think it must be all the blogs I read that are so full of dieting! It must have rubbed off on me because today at Whole Foods, I actually stood in front of a whole line of Newman’s cookies ( I LOVE their hermits) and ended up grudgingly picking up a small bag of ginger snaps. I like them enough to take care of a sugar craving, but not enough to eat too many….

  5. Ches, I HATE WATER! I’m not a camel nor a sponge so absorbing the stuff doesn’t come naturally at all.

Dr. John, you always have the positive outlook on everything. I appreciate that about you.

Amanda, WELCOME! I’m not floating away….because every time I turn around I have to pee.

Maria, I’ve been drinking Crystal Light sugar-free peach tea for years. I like Lipton’s diet peach iced tea, too, but the green tea gives you all those other nice health benefits. Crystal Light has a green tea version now, too, and it would be more cost effective, but I don’t like it as much. The ginger snaps would be a bad thing for me. I love them.

  6. This music is cracking me up Stacy! Ugh, I’ve gained so much weight since I left Pap and started quitting smoking…I need to follow your lead or start buying mumus.
