Doing My Best To Fill Space

Filed under: Giggles

Life and blogging are slow in the summer, so here’s another meme.  Lifted this one from Maria.

1) Are you taller than your mother?

Not really.  I think we are about the same height.  But we are both waaaay taller than either one of my aunts or my grandparents.

2) What color is your car?

Wine red with a cluttered gray interior.

3) What is the closest thing to you that is red?

A Country Weekly magazine.  Meg uses it as a reference when downloading music.

4) What is your ringtone?

I bounce back and forth between "It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere" and "Down In Mississippi"

5) Are you sick?

Now and then.

6) What color is your favorite pillow?

Kind of an off white at the moment.  I am hard on pillows and get a new one every month or so.

7) Favorite video game?

Jewel Quest Solitaire and Bookworm.

8) Nap today?

Actually, I did.

9) Gold or silver?

Silver.

10) Is there an animal that creeps you out?

Snakes and sharks are my big phobias, but I’m not particularly fond of anything cold blooded.

11) The last person you rode an elevator with?

Geez, I need to get out more often because I don’t remember the last time I rode an elevator.  It’s been months.

12) Did you go ice skating as a kid?

A few times, but my ankles always turned out (same with roller skating) and I never could see the fun in either falling on my butt constantly or hanging onto the rail for dear life.

13) Last person you had an argument with.

Tim or Megan.  I end up arguing with them all the time.  They are both stubborn as the day is long and they always think they are right.  Oh, did I say that out loud?

14) Ever have stitches?

Nope.  No broken bones either, unless you count a toe and I don’t because they don’t do anything for a broken toe.

15) Favorite non alcoholic drink?

Pepsi.

16) How long ago did you kiss someone?

This morning when Tim left for work.

17) What is something that you want to do before you die?

Live on a farm.

18) Ever caught something on fire?

Possibly.

19) Ever seen a ghost?

I don’t know.  There used to be things going on at night in my parents’ house that creeped my out and that I swore were due to ghosts, but I don’t think I ever saw anything.

20) Ever seen the northern lights?

Sadly, no.

21) Do you know how to use chopsticks?

Yes. I’m just not that good with them.

22) Something good that happened today?

I tried Reese’s new peanut butter cup flavor…peanut butter and banana cream.  It is sooo good.

23) Are you worried about something you can’t control?

Constantly.  I am a chronic worrier.

24) Do you take daily meds?

I take provera, but only 10 days a month.

25) Ever been in a fight?

No.  I missed my calling as a diplomat.

26) Wearing nail polish?

Yes. Clear on my fingers and Flutterby (kinda lavender) on my toes.

27) Favorite color?

Yellow.  I like happy.

28) Innie or outie?

In.

29) Ever used a Ouija board?

Yep, then I got religion and now they scare the crap out of me and I won’t even have one in the house.

30) Sweet or sour?

I like both about the same.  Now if salty had been on the list……

31) Sun or Moon?

The sun.

32) What shoes did you wear today?

Hot pink flip flops.

33) Favorite eye color of the opposite sex?

It doesn’t matter, but Tim’s are blue.

34) Most important quality in a relationship.

Love.  Not romantic, mushy, lusty "love."  I’m talking about real love, not a feeling.  The kind where you make a decision to put the other person first, to always look out for them and their needs, to cherish them for the rest of your lives.

35) Favorite zombie movie?

The Night of the Living Dead movies.  The first one has scenes filmed in a cemetery near here. The second one was filmed at Monroeville Mall, where I have shopped many times.

36) Time of day that you were born?

4:30 pm

37) Do you know your blood type?

A positive.  The same as Tim and the kids.

38) What would you spend 500 dollars on right now?

Back to school clothes for Megan.

39) Name something annoying in public transit?

I don’t have any real experience with public transit so I couldn’t say.

40) Did you grow up in a city or in the country?

Mostly in the country and for a few years, in the forest.

41) Consider going on a reality show for a large amount of money?

You couldn’t pay me enough.

42. Flown in your dreams?

Not that I remember, but I don’t remember very many of my dreams.  I am a very sound, deep sleeper.

43. Hugs or kisses?

Hugs, cause they’re nice from everyone.

44) Ten dollars to spend in a dollar store. What on?

Cleaning products, seasonal decorations, books.

45) Slurpee flavor?

I don’t like Slurpees.

Happy 15th Birthday Megan!

Filed under: Family, Giggles

That’s my baby….doing her impression of a fish (and looking oddly like my aunt).

Meg, again, with her best friend.  And no, they didn’t plan the twin look.

No big plans for her birthday.  She decided to take a pass on the big party this year (she wants a huge blow out next year for her Sweet 16) and instead I’ll be taking her to the outlet mall in the next week or two and giving her money to do shopping for back-to-school clothes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s been a slow week so far, mostly just hanging out at home so I really don’t have a lot to write about.  I could mention Lyndsey Lohan and her arrest yesterday for DUI and cocaine posession, but it happens so often it hardly seems worthy of notice any more.  Get a clue girl…..and get some help before you throw it all away.
So, out of boredom and lack of topics I checked out what’s been bringing folks to my blog recently.  Oh my!
  • Banana peel costume (are you making a costume that looks like a banana or making one out of banana peels?).
  • Blend banana peels
  • Banana Peel Studio
  • Banana peel emotion (who knew banana peels had feelings?)
  • Effects of banana peel on leather (why?)
  • About a bazillion searches land here wanting to know about smoking banana peels.  Apparently it’s rumored you can get high by doing so.
  • Banana peel religious story
  • Old books
  • Pepe le Pew (I used one picture of him when my dogs got sprayed and I’ll bet I get about 10 hits a day on it.  Who knew Pepe was so popular?)
  • Stacy
  • Grandson and lightening bugs (awwww)
  • Under boob (well, uh…)
  • Pick a molester (I don’t even want to know)
  • Win vouchers
  • Putting Orajel on before a tattoo (I’m guessing it’s supposed to numb the area?)
  • Teens cutting themselves
  • Farm tractor
  • Do you peel zucchini (yes, I do, do you?)
  • Grinch
  • Irish blinkies
  • Lubbock jumpin jungle
  • Toby Keith
  • One Foot in the Mud Band (wonder if they’re any good?)
  • Martha Stewart turkey dryer recipe (I hope they don’t invite me for Thanksgiving dinner)
Can You Stand Another Meme?
"Stole" this one from Kat.
INSTRUCTIONS: Remove the blog in the top spot from the following list and bump everyone up one place. Then add your blog to the bottom slot, like so:
1. Last Minute Lyn
2. melsdream
3. wading through my stream of consciousness
4. kat’s random thoughts
5. one foot on a banana peel
Next select five people to tag and tell them: more about this later.
Now answer the following questions:
What were you doing 10 years ago?
Hmmm…..the kids would have been not quite 5 and 10 so it was the year we took them to Disney World/Sea World/Universal Studios.  I would have been a mere 32 (where have the years gone?) and it was the beginning of the period that saw us as church leaders.
What were you doing 1 year ago?
This exact week?  I was on vacation, blissfully lounging about on the beach.  Sigh.
Five snacks you enjoy:
(Sadly) any kind of chip, popcorn, pretzels (the big hard ones), gala apples with cheese or peanut butter, anything chocolate.
Five songs to which you know all the lyrics:
Piano Man by Billy Joel, Love Me If You Can by Toby Keith (and a lot of his other songs, too), How Great Thou Art, every favorite song my daughter listens to because I have heard them so many times….currently it’s Ticks by Brad Paisley, and Good Directions by Billy Currington.
Five things you would do if you were a millionaire:
Pay off everything, buy Tim a new truck, move to the country, pay for the kids’ schooling, and give (money and time) to changing conditions on the poorest Native reservations.
Five bad habits:
Biting my nails, eating junk food, procrastination, pride, laziness.
Five things you like doing:
Reading, blogging, gardening, spending time at the shore, volunteering.
Five things you would never wear again:
A bikini, spike heeled pumps, parachute pants, shoulder pads, and big 80s hair jacked up to jeezus!
Five favorite toys:
My computer, my digital camera, my cell phone, my stereo, and all my crafty stuff (even though I’m no good at it).
Okay, the rest of the rules are to tag five people, but I have long ago stopped tagging people.  If you want to do this one, borrow away.  Just let me know so I can read your answers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Okay, I’ve been playing with my digital camera.  I think I might have it figured out…..well, at least enough to share some pictures with you.  There must be a more efficient way to do it than what I did, but I’ll have to keep working on it.  In the meantime, enjoy this little peek into my world.

My boy, Scooby.

Elvis being his adorable self.

The pool.

Funny sign by the pool.

Megan and her lamb.

Fourth of July

Just a few of my sunflowers.

The shadynook.

Hey, I cleaned out the old blogroll today.  Got rid of some links that no longer worked and some that I just don’t read any more.  I added a baker’s dozen, though, so if you’re looking for something good to read check out some of them.

Math Can Be Fun(ny)

Filed under: Giggles

There is nothing like a little algebra to humble you.  Tim and I have both been trying to help Meg with the problems due tomorrow.  I have absolutely no clue.  Tim has way more of a clue than I do, but still doesn’t know how to solve the problems.  This does not bode well for a correspondence algebra course.  It’s either laugh or cry and I hate to cry, so……..

Another Time Killer

Ever wonder what your blog would sound like if you wrote the whole thing in "redneck" or if Elmer Fudd wrote it?  Those are just two of the choices at The Dialectizer.  All you have to do is go to the site and type in your site’s address and choose what dialect you want to see it in.  The Dialectizer does the rest.  Freakin’ hilarious!
